私たち家族は、毎年クリスマスイブに子どもたちを起こして、ソファの上で毛布にくるまり、朝食をとりながらこれを最初に観ます。
代表的なディズニーキャラクターが登場する心温まる3つの物語があります。
私のお気に入りは一つめの「ドナルドのクリスマスは大変だ! (Donald Duck: Stuck on Christmas)」です。
子どもたちと一緒に観ることを強くおすすめします。
エルフ 〜サンタの国からやってきた〜 (Elf)
「エルフ」は私のお気に入りのクリスマス映画です。
毎年クリスマスイブに家族と一緒に観ていますが、毎回笑えます。
ウィル・フェレルのエルフの衣装は飽きることがなく、この映画は心温まり、知的で、ユーモアがあります。
ジェームズ・カーンやズーイー・デシャネルなど、キャスティングも素晴らしいです。
そして私のお気に入りのピーター・ディンクレイジのセリフ「もう一度エルフと呼んでみろ！(Call me elf one more time!)」は彼の短い出演時間にも関わらず忘れられないシーンです。
クリスマス・キャロル (A Christmas Carol)
「クリスマス・キャロル」は、ディケンズによる不朽の物語で、英語圏の世界でクリスマスを定義するものとなっています。
古典的な白黒版、マペット版、現代的な解釈など、様々なバージョンがありますが、どれも間違いないと思います。
私のお気に入りは1984年のもので、ジョージ・C・スコットが演じる冷淡な主人公が3人のクリスマスの精霊の訪問後に救済を見出す物語です。
ビル・マーレイ・クリスマス (A Very Murray Christmas)
これは私のお気に入りのクリスマス映画の一つです。
私はいつもクリスマスの準備中に、家族の迷惑を顧みずにこの映画を流しています。
この映画の素晴らしい点は、ユーモアと憂鬱のバランスが取れていて、ホリデーシーズンに対するより深い理解を表現しています。
また、雪嵐の中、ニューヨークのホテル内で物語が展開するこじんまりとした親しみやすい設定が好きです。

Many of our students studying English at our school start their journey with us because they aspire to watch English movies without subtitles. I can truly relate to that. I grew up in Greece, and although my English was always quite strong, I mostly relied on Greek subtitles when watching movies. It was only when I moved to the UK that I realized how different the movie-watching experience is when you are looking at the actor rather than the bottom of the screen where the subtitles are.
Watching Movies for English learners
Whether you use subtitles or not, watching films in English can bring numerous benefits to your language learning journey, such as:

Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmas
Be careful with this one because there are some similarly titled Disney films. The one you are looking for is this one. In my family, every Christmas Eve, we wake up my children who cuddle together under a blanket on the sofa and watch it first thing in the morning while having breakfast. There are three heartwarming stories featuring iconic Disney characters. My favorite is the first one, “Donald Duck: Stuck on Christmas.” I highly recommend watching it together with your kids.
Elf
Elf is my favorite Christmas film. I watch it with my family every year on Christmas Eve, and I find it hilarious every single time. Will Ferrell in an elf costume never gets old, and it’s a film with a lot of heart, brain, and a great sense of humor. The casting is excellent as well, with James Caan, Zooey Deschanel, and my favorite, maybe being a short (no pun intended!) but unforgettable appearance by Peter Dinklage, "Call me elf one more time!"
A Christmas Carol
"A Christmas Carol" is a timeless tale by Dickens that has come to define what Christmas means in the English-speaking world. Different adaptations bring their own flair, whether it's the classic black-and-white version, the Muppet version, or modern interpretations, and I think you can’t go wrong with any of them. My favorite is the 1984 version with George C. Scott’s portrayal of the wicked main character finding redemption after the visit of the three Christmas spirits.
A Very Murray Christmas
This is one of my favorite Christmas films. I usually play it in the background in the build-up to Christmas, much to the annoyance of the rest of my family. What I love about this movie is the balance it strikes between humor and melancholy, offering a more nuanced take on the holiday season. I also like that the story unfolds in an intimate setting, a New York City hotel during a snowstorm. This, together with all the musical performances, makes you feel like you are spending the holidays with the characters on screen. This isn’t exactly a family movie; it’s more for adults, I feel.
