食べ物について話そう！ - go well with
/Hi there,
Continuing the theme of agreeing, when we talk about food and drink pairings we use the phrase “go well with” my students often try to use “match” when talking about food but even though I understand what they mean, it sounds very unnatural.
Example
Salt and vinegar goes well with French fries.
Red wine goes well with steak.
It can also be used in the negative.
Chocolate sauce doesn’t go well with cheeseburgers.
Hope that comes in handy.

同意のテーマを続けながら、食べ物と飲み物の組み合わせについて話す時に、私たちは “go well with”のフレーズを使いますが、私の生徒の皆さんの中には食べ物の話しをする時に “match”をよく使ってみています。私は何を言いたいのか分かりますが、あまり自然な英語には聞こえません。
例.
塩と酢はフライドポテトと合います。
赤ワインはステーキと合います。
また否定形でも使えます
チョコレートソースはチーズバーガーとは合いません。
