今年2022年を振り返って - 仕事とプライベートについて

今年も終わりに近づいていますが、毎年私はいつもこの時期を振り返り、自分が仕事およびプライベートでどのように時間を費やしてきたかを考えたいと思っています。
毎年、悪いニュースや失望の共有がありますが、良いニュースと成果の共有もあります。今年も例外ではありません。

個人的には、今年はおおむね順調な年だったと思います。
今年は息子とたくさんの時間を過ごすことができました。
私たちは一緒に勉強し、一緒にたくさんの本を読み、一緒に望遠鏡で星を眺め、たくさんのスポーツやビデオゲームを一緒に遊んだり見たりしました。
仕事を終えて彼と過ごす時間は一日の中で最高の時間でした。 

私の家族は、数年ぶりにようやく九州の外へ旅行しに行きました。夏には二度目の北海道を訪れました。
初めて北海道に行ったのは4、5年前で、今までで最高の旅行だったかもしれません。
2回目もなかなかよかったです！私は北海道が大好きで、来年もまた行きたいと思っています。福岡の夏はとにかく暑すぎます。

今年は私たちにとっても悪いニュースがいくつかありました。
私の猫には脳腫瘍があり、治療はそれを止めることができず、11月に亡くなりました。
私の猫、チビは17歳で、彼は私にとって本当に特別な存在でした。
チビは私がどこへ行ってもついてきて、隣に横になり、私を待って、私に挨拶してくれました。
彼は本当に優しくて愛情深い子でした。チビがいなくて本当に寂しいです。
痛みは愛の対価として払うものであり、私は年をとるほどそれを実感しています。

仕事で言えば、今年は私にとって本当に重要な年だったと思います。
教育に携わるのがどれだけ好きか気づきました。私は教えることが好きだといつも思っていましたが、心の奥底ではビジネスについてもさらに楽しんでいるとも思っていました。
おそらくそれはもはや真実ではなく、今後ももっと教えることに携わっていきたいです。
今年は、今でも大好きな英会話のクラスを教えることに加えて、TOEIC、TOEFL、英検、大学入試などのテストの教え方も学びましたが、今は小学生向けの算数と理科の教え方も学んでいます。
とてもやりがいがあり、来年はさらに多く教室に行き、もっとみなさんとお会いできるのが楽しみです!

Another year is approaching its end and as every year, I always like to reflect at this time and consider how I have spent my time professionally and privately. Every year has its share of bad news and disappointments and also its share of good news and achievements and this year has been no different. 

Privately this year has generally been an OK year I think. I was able to spend a tonne of time with my son this year. We studied together, read many books together, gazed at the stars with my telescope together and played and watched a lot of sports and video games together. It was the best time of my day, finishing work and spending time with him. 

My family finally traveled somewhere outside Kyushu this year after a few years. In summer we visited Hokkaido for the second time. The first time we went to Hokkaido was about 4 or 5 years ago and it was maybe the best trip we ever had. Second time was pretty good too! I love it there and hope to go again next year. Fukuoka is just tooooooo hot in the summertime. 

This year had some bad news for us too, my cat died in November, he had a brain tumor and the treatment he followed couldn’t really stop it. My cat, Chibi, was 17 years old. He was really special to me, he would follow me everywhere I went, lie down next to me, wait for me, greet me, he was a truly kind and loving creature and I miss him dearly. Pain is the price that we have to pay for love, and the older I get the more I realize that. 

Professionally, I think this year was really important for me as I realized how much I love being in education. I always knew I liked teaching but I always thought that deep inside I enjoy the business side of things more. That’s probably no longer true, and I would definitely like to teach more going forward. This year, in addition to teaching our English conversation classes which I still love, I also learnt how to teach for tests, such as TOEIC, TOEFL, EIKEN and the University Admission Exam but also I am now learning how to teach math and science in English to Elementary school children. It’s been very rewarding and I can’t wait to get back into the classroom more next year and see you more!

To all of you Windsor Eikaiwa students, thank you so much for choosing our school for your studies. Many of you have been our students now for many years, thank you for sticking with us through thick and thin. From our side, as educators, no matter how busy we get, no matter what goes on in our private lives, every time we step into the classroom it all goes away and we can focus on what we have chosen to spend our professional lives on, what we love doing; learning and teaching, teaching and learning.
